Last night I discovered that the lights I bought didn’t have integrated turn signals so I had to figure something out. I decided to order some 4x2 inch LEDs and mount them just under the lights. That mean’t I also had to design the mount. Yay - more 3D printing fun.

I figured it would be a good idea to mount it in the same spot as the headlight.

I founds some cool truck lights. These will work!

The lights are 4 inches by 2 inches. They will mount fine on the front. I also have some little 18mm LEDs that I’ll mount on the side.

I may need to trim the inside plastic support to clear the existing clamp geometry, but that’s fine.

Awesome.

What’d you use to model it?  I’ve slowly been learning Fusion 360 so I can learn to do stuff like this.  Back when I was in school I did 3D modelling in Maya, but parametric modelling where dimensions are actually important is a bit of a different beast.

Cool!

I wish I had an ABS-capable 3D Printer of my own, but can’t really afford one at the moment...

I sometimes do 3D printing stuff at the local library (I work there on occasion) and do workshops and demos for their 3D printers. Most of the things I’ve designed are relatively small though...things that I could print quickly while on a short shift!

The wheel center caps have always turned out well though!

Kinja'd!!!

I designed them a few years ago as my summer alloys are actually ‘98 Ford Escort rims on a 2009 Hyundai Accent....I wanted new center caps to match the car as the old ones say ‘Ford’ so I designed these and printed them out in PLA a few times (our library doesn’t have any ABS-capable printers)...the PLA ones last awhile, but PLA doesn’t stand up well to the natural environment so a kind Oppo printed some in black ABS for me a few years back that I am still using!

Another kind Oppo also printed my custom parcel-shelf mount snow brush clips as well; here’s some pics of some older ABS versions of those I had!

I do most of my modeling in the basic n00b software that is Sketchup, but it works! Nowhere near as fancy as your stuff though. :P

Nice! That’s awesome!

I feel like I should buy a printer soon. This is the second time in 2 months that I’ve ordered something printed online.

I actually just used Tinkercad. I’ve used inventor to design my windshield (not done yet though).

Tinkercad is great for ultra-simple things like this.

Ordering printed stuff online seems CRAZY expensive...

It is. These two bits were over $100. But the trade off is the headaches of maintaining the printer, having different finishing options, having to watch the print and check on support structures, etc. If I were planning on doing a lot more (and knew which material that I wanted everything in), then I would get a printer.
